Please note that this is a family event, and an adult must be with your children for the entire event. AKA, this isn't a drop-off situation.

Laternenfest is coming
 |
During Laternenfest, children of the elementary school age walk along the streets holding colorful, often self-made lanterns, sing songs, and share treats.
We will gather at school Door 1 to hear a German story, sing and listen to traditional songs and walk with our lanterns through the neighborhood. We will reconvene back at OHES for warm refreshments & baked goods! Featuring a Kinderchor performance!

Our kick-off PTA meeting is this Wednesday, September 24 at 7pm. This meeting is important, as we'll be voting on the PTA Budget and Organizational Structure.
We know that everyone's schedules are bananas, so we offer all meetings in a hybrid format. This means more flexibility and convenience for everyone!
In-Person: Join us in the school library for a warm, engaging experience. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect directly with other parents and staff. (And we have snacks!)
Online: If you prefer the comfort of your own home, you can still be an active participant via Zoom.

We had an amazing night at the Variety Show two weeks ago. Many thanks to Anna Boomer and Ellen Dreyer for coordinating this fantastic event! We had 24 amazing acts with 38 performers. We enjoyed various martial arts demonstrations, dances, songs, instrumental performances, skits, and more! Congratulations to all of the performers for your outstanding accomplishments!
We will continue to be in touch over the summer with reminders and updates! So keep an eye on your Monday morning inbox!

Orange Hunt at the Washington Commanders September 21st @ 1pm Calling all Football fans!!! We are teaming up with the Washington Commanders again to provide discounts on tickets and a chance to walk on the field for a special photo! For students rising into grades 2-7 at all levels of play. Students will play chess but also enjoy other activities. May 21 at 7pm
Join us in the school library or online via Zoom
Elections for the PTA Board will be held at the PTA Meeting this Wednesday. You can nominate yourself or someone else. So far we have one official nomination (for President). In order for the PTA to continue, these positions must be filled. Please contact NominatingCommittee@
The following positions are open for nomination:
- President: Oversees the PTA, runs PTA monthly meetings, coordinates the work of officers and committee chairs, coordinates with school administration on events and activities, approves correspondence to general membership and all contracts, and represents the PTA at school functions. (Time commitment varies)
- VP1: Oversees the school support committee including: mini-grants, teacher reimbursement, curriculum support, staff liaison, lost & found, etc. (1-4 hours/week)
- VP2: Oversees fundraising activities including: corporate sponsors, restaurant nights, fall festival, dance-a-thon, Boosterthon, etc. (Time commitment varies depending on upcoming events)
- Corresponding Secretary: Oversees weekly newsletter, website updates, and social media posts (2-4 hrs/week)
- Treasurer: Maintains custody of all funds and finances. Keeps a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures. Makes disbursements in accordance with the budget adopted by general membership (~2 hours/week). Presents financial statement and bank reconciliation and every meeting (~2 hours/month). Prepares and annual financial report at the end of the fiscal year (~2 hours/year). Prepares records for financial review (audit) at the end of the fiscal year (~2-4 hours/year). Submits tax forms per IRS regulations (~3-5 hours/year). Remits dues to FCCPTA and VAPTA (~1 hour/event).
- Recording Secretary: Records minutes at PTA meetings. Duties include attending PTA meetings and taking notes, distributing notes for review, and revising and filing final PTA meeting notes each month for the school year. Submits final notes to post on PTA website (~4-6 hours/month)
In addition to these elected positions, there are many appointed positions that are critical to making a successful PTA. The more people involved in events and activities, the less time each individual needs to devote to the PTA.
Our volunteers and board members span a wide-variety of situations including stay-at-home parents, military spouses, OHES teachers, part-time workers, and full-time workers. Some of us live out of boundary, some live in the neighborhood. We are a welcoming group and would love your involvement!

Deposit clean and dry plastic wrap in the designated bins outside of the Cafeteria, outside Door 1 (main entrance), and Door 6 (near the playground). Only certain items are eligible, such as: grocery bags, produce bags, Ziploc bags, cereal box liners, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, plastic mailers, bubble wrap, and dry cleaning bags, etc. See acceptable plastic bag items |

This week will be the last chance to pick up items from the Lost & Found. All items not picked up by Monday, May 18 will be donated!
We will also be putting the lost & found items outside the Main Entrance (Door 1) starting on Friday (during Spring Fest) and over the weekend. Come anytime to find your lost items. Items left on Monday the 18th will be donated.

Volunteer needed to plan clubs for next year The person in this role would be responsible for high-level coordination with sponsors, ensuring administrative forms are submitted, scheduling the facility use, and advocating for announcements in the newsletter and PTA website. Week-to-week management of the clubs is handled by the clubs and parent leads for each club. Without a volunteer in this role, clubs may need to be limited next year. Still looking for summer camps? โ๏ธ Chess Camp at OHES June 23 - 27 U.S. Chess Center, the organization that runs our weekly chess club, will host a Chess Camp at our school this summer. For students rising into grades 2-7 at all levels of play. Students will play chess but also enjoy other activities. For information about the camp see: Orange Hunt Chess Day Camp ๐ฅ Incourage Martial Arts Summer Camp Discount Incourage Martials Arts is offering a $25 discount per week using code ohpta. Plastic Recycling is back! Girl Scouts are sponsoring a bench for Orange Hunt, so we are back to collecting plastic. Deposit clean and dry plastic wrap in the designated bins outside of the Cafeteria, outside Door 1 (main entrance), and Door 6 (near the playground). Only certain items are eligible, such as: grocery bags, produce bags, Ziploc bags, cereal box liners, bread bags, newspaper sleeves, plastic mailers, bubble wrap, and dry cleaning bags, etc. See acceptable plastic bag items |

This week we are celebrating ALL of the staff at Orange Hunt with our Wizard of Oz theme ๐๐ ๐ช๏ธ๐ช๐ซง, special treats, and daily giveaways! Many thanks to all of the teachers, instructional assistants, monitors, specialists and student support staff, principals, office staff, transportation staff, food services staff, custodial staff, and more who support our students!

Bike Safety & Obstacles Event May 3, 9am - 11am | Last day to register is this Sat., Apr. 12 Bring your bike and helmet to the OHES Parking Lot to learn about bike safety and test out your skills on our obstacle course.
