Reflections Art Contest

We are excited to announce the 2020-2021 PTA Reflections Program and invite all OHES students to create a piece of original artwork based on this year’s Reflections theme: I Matter Because...

The PTA Reflections program aims to help all students explore their thoughts, feelings and ideas while developing their artistic literacy and increasing their confidence. Students create original artwork inspired by their reflections on this year’s theme. Students may submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Participating in Reflections is easy and all students are encouraged to think about this year’s theme and use their imagination to create artwork to share with the Orange Hunt Elementary School community. Students’ artwork will be judged by a panel of volunteer judges and winning submissions for each category will be sent to the Fairfax County Council PTA to compete against students from throughout the county.

Student entries are due on October 9th and all student entries must be submitted digitally (as photographs or videos) this year. We’re still working out the details on how you will submit your children’s artwork and will let you know how to do so as soon as possible. In the meantime, please share this year’s theme with your children and encourage them to start thinking about the amazing art they are going to create! RunFit Kidz

We are very excited to be offering RunFit Kidz this fall! While this season may not mirror exactly what our RFK families have come to know and love - rest assured that not matter if you choose in-person, zoom or even your own "pod" training that you will receive the best in the business coaching, a great workout and the camaraderie of teammates that we are all craving. Here are the Class Options we will offer this Fall:

Option 1: In-Person - location Cottontail Swim & Racquet Club - Cottontail Ct, Springfield, VA - see website for exact days/times. And Capital Baptist - 3504 Gallows Road, Annandale, VA 22003

Option 2: Zoom Virtual - see website for exact days/times.

Option 3: Your group - Your location. In this climate we know many friends/families are creating their own "Pods". If you would like to create your own group we can come to you or meet at a mutually agreed upon location or provide a Zoom session. Hoot's Heroes - OHES PTA Fundraiser

Hoot's Heroes is our easy, no-stress, no selling fundraiser for the PTA. Donations from our OHES families each year help fund numerous programs, activities and materials for our school. The 2020 OHES spritwear is available for purchase online at https://shop.burkesports.com/ Use code OWLS to view this years spiritwear. You have the option to have your order shipped to you or there will be a one time pick up at the school. There will be no in person sales this year.

Yard Sign Sale

Show your Owl spirit with a yard sign! Yard signs measure 24" wide by 18" tall, includes a one sided print and stakes. Each sign is $10. We hope to receive the yard signs before the start of school so pre-orders will only run through noon on Friday, August 14, 2020. Given the PTA spending rules, we are only able to purchase 150 yard signs at this time. This is within the amount that was approved at the May meeting to be used for spiritwear and other summer expenses before a 20-21 PTA budget is approved. If there is additional interest we will sell them again once we have an approved budget at the end of September.

Return to School Selection Deadline Extended to July 15th

FCPS has extended the deadline for parents to choose how they want their children to return to school this fall for the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. Responses are due no later than Wednesday, July 15. Additionally, Dr. Brabrand announced that he will ask the School Board to delay the start of school until after Labor Day, which will be Tuesday, September 8.
