11/21/2017 4:05 pm

The Fairfax County School Board held a November 13 work session to discuss proposed options for the 2018-2019 school year calendar. As a result, the School Board is introducing calendar option D during its December 7 regular meeting for consideration and public comment. The School Board is scheduled to make its final decision during its December 14 regular meeting.

Please note that county residents can attend School Board work sessions, but are not allowed to speak. However, county residents are allowed to speak during regular meetings. It is important for PTA members to get and stay engaged when such issues benefit or adversely affect their students, teachers, schools, families, and/or communities. Reserve your speaking slot for either the December 7 or December 14 regular meetings of the School Board and share your story about your students, teachers, and schools.

Box Tops Due Tomorrow!

10/19/2017 6:44 pm

We are Girl Scout Troop 2090 and we are working with the PTA to collect Box Tops this year.

We are doing this because we want to help raise money for the school for fun activities and materials for students and teachers.

You can help by clipping Box Tops, making sure they’re not expired and sending them in a baggie with your teacher’s name on it. Please send them in by October 20th.

If each student sends in just about 30 Box Tops we will make our goal of $3000! The 3 classes with the most Box Tops collected get to have a pizza party!

Thank you for your support and remember to keep saving them for the spring contest!

Restaurant Nights Chair - Part of our fundraising efforts is partnering with local restaurants and receiving a portion of proceeds from dedicated nights. We are in need of one or more volunteers to help assist with coordinating and deciding on restaurants to partner with. If you are interested, please contact vp2@orangehuntpta.org.

Capital Enhancements Vote at Tomorrow's PTA Meeting!

10/16/2017 11:25 am

In the spring of 2017, the PTA recognized that we would end the year with excess funds and the membership voted to use those funds for capital enhancements for the school. Since the amount of the funds would vary depending on the end-of-year expenses, the decision was made to earmark the funds as the fiscal year closed, but allow the membership this year to vote on the actual expenditure.

The school has identified three needs for us to consider:

1.    Classroom Libraries

With the huge growth in the number of students this year, several new classrooms were added. Leveled books are needed both for these new classes as well as increasing the number of books available in each classroom library.

2.    Dreambox

The school has already paid for the annual subscription $6,200, and the PTA can reimburse the school for this expense.

3.    Laptop Computers

The school would like to purchase additional computers so that there are more laptops available for classroom use. The PTA would be able to purchase half a cart with the funds available.

These funds are separate from our capital enhancements for the current school year – if we stay on-budget for 2017-18, we will have additional funds that we can use for capital enhancements in early 2018.
